That’s right everyone. If you haven’t already seen the video of Matt from On The Go Tours announcing the name of the winner in Trafalgar Square yesterday, check it out here!

Congratulations to Katie Powell for winning the grand prize of a six-month round-the-world trip for two, and congratulations also to our 6 top GROMmers, who have all won a trip to Egypt.

Now that the competitive element of GROM Season 1 has concluded, we’re turning our attention to Season 2. And, with this in mind, we’d like feedback from all of you about what you’d like to see more of, and what you didn’t enjoy. What was good about Season 1, and what could be improved on? What ker-azy travel ideas have you got? It’s your competition, so let us know what you’d like to see in GROM Season 2, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

Well done, and a huge big thanks to everyone who entered. We’ve had a lot of fun putting this competition together, and we certainly look forward to making it bigger and better next time around.

And don’t think that this is goodbye... quite the opposite. We’ll be busy keeping everyone updated on the latest travel and competition news all over the interwebz; so follow us on Twitter and stay in touch on Facebook too.

    Have a fabulous weekend!

Hey everyone. We received the mail below describing Jill McWilliam’s activities in the build-up to the draw on Thursday. We couldn’t resist, we had to share it with you all:

    Dear Team GROM,

What will I do with the week knowing that my life could go from blah to woohoo in less than a week? I have already finished with the fingernails and match sticks that you speak of. I have moved on to further distraction. I have dug up my whole yard, watched 15 straight hours of bowling on television and learned to unwrap a Starburst candy with only my tongue. I am now learning to weave baskets underwater. I may give that up though; my mind is racing and I am seeing visions of airline stewards and I have a perpetual tandoori tastle in my mouth. It's a sign. I just know it!

    Jill McWilliam

Brilliant! Thank you, Jill. Wishing the best of luck to all of you,

    Team GROM

    Welcome to Monday!

Just a few short days left now before the draw takes place, awarding one of our entrants (and one other lucky person) a 6 month trip across the world!

So in this time of comparative quiet, what have you been doing to keep busy? We know you’re probably a bit nervous, so we decided to give you some reading material to tide you over until Thursday. Take a look at some of the week’s news stories that have kept our passion for travel alive as we await news of the winner!

A Lithuanian company is courting controversy after announcing plans to develop a tropical island holiday resort staffed exclusively by blondes. Read more here.

The 40th anniversary of the wheeled suitcase was celebrated this past week. It’s something we’ve always taken for granted here at GROM, but can you imagine carrying your suitcases everywhere? Neither can we. Take a look here.

Here’s one for anyone planning a trip to China in the near future: scientists and explorers in the region have embarked on a mission to raise funds in aid of finally discovering the truth about Bigfoot, known locally as the Yeren. After hundreds of reported sightings, numerous footprints and even a TV show (remember Harry and the Hendersons?) they’ve decided that enough is enough. Forget about starving orphans or climate change. It’s Yeti-huntin’ time! Read more here.

Google maps takes things one step further with a video of the Trans-Siberian rail journey. Choose your soundtrack too, from train noises to the audio-book of Tolstoy’s War & Peace. In Russian, of course. Take a look.

And finally, one of the week’s most exciting stories: archaeologists have unearthed a 3400 year-old statue of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, believed to be the grandfather of King Tutankhamen. That’s great news for GROM winners and runners-up too! Read about it here.

Stay in touch with the latest travel news on Get Rid Of Me’s Twitter profile, and join us on Facebook too. We’ll be back again with more on the competition before you know it. Sit tight, Thursday could be the best day of your life!
