Summer’s over everyone, or at least it will be by the time the GROM winner lands in Russia. In the land of the tsars, you’ll need to wrap up. Put your gloves on and pull on that Ushanka: you’re heading to Russia for the winter!
The currency in Russia is the rouble, which is made up of 100 kopeks. The symbol for the rouble is py6, and at the time of writing, US$1 is worth about 31 roubles. It’s recommended that you take Euros or US Dollars with you, and remember that you’ll need your passport to change currency. As with most destinations on the GROM circuit, you’ll be able to use major debit or credit cards in larger hotels, foreign currency shops and restaurants. Using cash is more reliable though.
Now let’s get back to that weather advice. You’ll be starting the tour in St. Petersburg, heading to Moscow and finally to Pskov. Average temperatures will drop to about -14 degrees, and rise to about -7. Vodka is recommended! You can expect snow, and lots of it. Russia a beautiful country, and the snow will make you feel like you're living in a postcard. Emerging from the heat of the traditional Russian banya is going to be a shock to the system, but judging by the reports we’ve had, it’s definitely one of the tour’s highlights.
In closing, remember that today is the last day that you can nominate a friend for the chance of winning yourself a King Tutankhamen 9-day tour to Egypt. If you haven’t nominated people, get moving! Just a few hours left!
Good luck everyone.
