Welcome to a brand new week. The winner of our Nominate-a-Friend competition has been selected!
But our winner lives on the opposite side of the planet where it’s still night-time, and has no idea that they’ve won. They’re sleeping soundly right now, oblivious to the amazing 9 day tour to Egypt that awaits them. So we’re going to wait until tomorrow (GMT) to formally introduce you to our wonderful winner, and today we’re going to do the Packing Advice Column instead! It’s the ol’ switcheroo!
Today we’re looking at India. A vast land with varying climatic conditions, India has three seasons throughout the year: Hot, wet and cool. Luckily for you, you’ll be visiting in the cool season, which is ideal for sightseeing. Temperatures average out in the late 20s and early 30s during the day, with fresh mornings and evenings.
However, remember that the Indian leg of the tour will take you to the Himalayas, home of the highest peaks on the planet. And what’s more, you’ll be there in late winter / early Spring. Although the cold will not be as harsh as it is in mid-winter, you certainly will need warm clothes in the Himalayas. (That sounds a bit obvious, doesn’t it?)
Pounds Sterling, US Dollars and other major currencies can all be exchanged locally, but remember that the rupee is non-exportable, so you’ll have to spend it all before you leave! Exchange facilities are available at major airports and bureau de changes and to a lesser degree, ATMs/cash machines exist in larger towns. Request a broad mix of note denominations, as smaller notes will be handy for small purchases and perhaps gratuities/tipping.
You can see full details of the trip you’ll be taking here.
That’s all for today folks, but remember to come back tomorrow to meet the winner of the King Tut! And start getting those Travel Photo fail pictures together... I see hysterical laughter in your future.
Good luck as always,
Team GROM
