Wow, so there's plenty stories on the web today about legendary photographer Steve McCurry, saying goodbye to the last roll of Kodachrome with a shoot in New York and India. McCurry, lest you forget, was the guy who snapped the Afghan Girl for National Geographic.
We love National Geographic. And we love travel photography. But somehow the most exciting travel photos of all are those with us at the front, giving a thumbs up and grinning like a fool. It brings a lump to the throat to think of the place, and the people you visited with. And we like looking at ourselves.
Of course everything is digital now but you cannot beat the thrill you used to get from developing an old roll: There's us on the Bolivian Salt Plains. There we are giving the thumbs up on the Inca Trail! Oh look, it's Machu Pichu!! And THIS one must have been taken when I was very, very drunk.
Of course – some of you may actually be quite useful with a camera. It's possible that not all your travel shots feature someone making "rabbit ears" behind someone else’s head. Maybe you have a talent for landscapes, portrait photography, nature shots or capturing the beautiful and bizarre in everyday life.
