Welcome to our customary mid-week Prize preview. It’s the most mouth-watering part of the week, and this week is no exception. Today we’re taking a look at the exotic land of Morocco.
Steeped in history and culture, Morocco has a great deal to offer casual traveller and the adventurous wanderer alike. Starting in Marrakech in a hotel perfectly situated in the heart of the old medina, you’ll have great access to the old souq and Djemaa el Fna.
You’ll then head for the hills; or the Atlas Mountains to be exact, which certainly aren’t to be taken lightly:
Enjoy sweet Moroccan mint tea as you take in views of the highest peaks in North Africa. On Day 3, you’ll explore some of the most dramatic vistas to be seen anywhere in Morocco at Dades Gorge and Todra Gorge. Then strap on that headscarf for a trek deep into the largest desert in the world: the legendary Sahara. You’ll camp overnight in a Berber camp under the stars, and the next morning travel by camel to Ouarzazate (pronounced wa-za-zat).
No trip to this region is complete without seeing Ait Benhaddou, an ancient fortified city that you’ll recognise as the backdrop for scenes from the movie ‘Gladiator.’ Then it’s back to Marrakech and Djemaa el Fna before you’re on to the next leg of the tour. Amazing!
